Is the union of religion and state a correct political concept?
We know now political scientists often describe Iran as a hybrid system: it has democratic elements (elections and representative institutions) alongside theocratic institutions that exercise ultimate oversight.Whether this arrangement is viewed positively or negatively is a matter of political and philosophical debate. Supporters argue it ensures governance is grounded in religious and moral principles. Critics argue that the unelected religious institutions can limit political competition, constrain elected officials, and restrict certain civil and political freedoms. The classification of Iran as a theocratic state, however, is broadly accepted in political science. Could this be the reason why the United States is attacking Iran? If so, it is certainly not the only reason! Let us set aside the debate over the actual origins...
