Bitcoin (BTC) sprinted to the $65,000 mark on Thursday! It hit the highest level in nearly two months for the world's largest cryptocurrency. Approaching key resistance levels, how likely is this round of "alt season" to reappear? Which high-quality sectors will be the next focus? This price trend marks a recovery for Bitcoin, which had previously fallen to $53,000 in September. With it came a surge in the price of Bitcoin mining machines - the most popular Antminer L9 Dogecoin Miner 16G pre-sale price reached more than $13,000!
Typically, Bitcoin's price performance tends to be volatile in the summer and September, but investors expect prices to grow in October, often referred to as "Uptober," as favorable factors drive renewed optimism in Bitcoin prices. Relatedly, Ethereum, the world's second-largest cryptocurrency, also saw positive price action on Thursday.
As of writing, Ethereum is trading at $2,651, up 2%. Solana, the world’s fifth-largest cryptocurrency by market value, surged more than 5% to nearly $160 on Thursday.
The upcoming U.S. presidential election could have a major impact on the price of bitcoin and altcoins, as both presidential candidates have nominally pledged support for the industry. Former President Donald Trump began accepting political donations in cryptocurrencies earlier this year and touted innovation in the space at a Bitcoin conference in Nashville. “You are the modern-day Edisons, the Wright brothers, the Carnegies and the Henry Fords, and what you have done in your lifetime has the potential to outlive all of us,” Trump told crypto executives this summer.
“Today, I am speaking with great respect and admiration for what the Bitcoin community has accomplished,” Trump stressed to a rapt Nashville audience, promising to replace SEC Chairman Gary Gensler, who is unpopular with crypto companies, with a more pro-crypto pick. Vice President Kamala Harris has also recently won favor with some crypto executives by talking up the industry’s potential. At a recent $27 million fundraiser, Harris said her administration would "encourage innovative technologies like artificial intelligence and digital assets while protecting our consumers and investors." While many are optimistic about Harris' plans, some are skeptical that the vice president's cryptocurrency plans will differ significantly from those of the current administration.
Bitcoin prices are back above key resistance levels, but are there enough bullish catalysts to sustain the current rally? In addition, the global economic and political situation is in an extremely turbulent moment, with Asia, the Middle East, and Europe all full of gunpowder!
But war, for Bitcoin, may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
